Arturo Sandoval, President
Arturo Sandoval is founder and president of the Center of Southwest Culture. He is also the founder and president of VOCES, Inc., a communications and organizational development consulting firm with headquarters in Alburquerque, NM, and with branch offices in Chihuahua, Mexico. He served for ten years as vice-president of the board of the Sawmill Community Land Trust, is a former co-chair of the Alburquerque-Chihuahua Sister Cities Committee and the Circle of Voices, a Native-American and Chicano coalition. He is a former board member of the National Holocaust and Intolerance Study Center and Museum of New Mexico. He is past president of 1000 Friends of New Mexico, served on the City of Albuquerque-Bernalillo County Unification Charter Commission, and served on Gov. Bill Richardson’s Our Communities, Our Future Statewide Task Force.

Juan Abeyta, Vice-President
Juan Abeyta is a long-time community activist, with over 35 years of work in educational and cultural programming. He works as an independent consultant designing, implementing and evaluating educational programs and initiatives for a wide array of agencies and educational institutions. Recent clients have included:

• National Science Foundation – Broadening Participation in Computing Program;
• Sandia National Laboratories – University Partnerships;
• Southwest Indian Polytechnical Institute – Associate of Science in Engineering Technology Program;
• ENLACE (Engaging Latino Communities for Education) – a central New Mexico Hispanic dropout prevention program; and,
• University of Massachusetts Political Economy Research Institute – sustainable economic development initiative.

Alan Marks, JD, Secretary/Treasurer
Alan Marks has dedicated his career as an educator to creating successful educational models for students in K-12. He founded the South Valley Academy in Albuquerque’s South Valley, where he serves as head master. He has helped hundreds of minority students from across New Mexico successfully apply to and graduate from the nation’s top private colleges and universities.
